On a typically cold and blustery Monaro weekend, 18 Monaro producers turned out on the 3rd and 4th of May 2014 to brave the conditions, with their dogs, to attend a two day, “working dog school”. The school was hosted and coordinated by Monaro Farming Systems and delivered by Jamie Barclay of “Barclay Livestock Management Services”.
The weekend, despite the weather, was both informative and enjoyable and really brought home the contribution a good working dog can make to your labour efficiency on-farm.
Feedback from participants……
“with expert tuition, slight changes to your dog’s behaviour can save a lot of hard work…” and “starting a pup in the right direction will pay-off in the long run”.
“two good dogs is often better than ten hopeless ones”
“I should have come 30 years ago”.
“very enjoyable experience and took a lot away, especially a plan of action now for my younger dog and the confidence to take her on from here.”
