Transitioning Pasture Systems to Balanced Soil Fertility

Transitioning Pasture Systems to Balanced Soil Fertility is a five-year project funded by Meat & Livestock Australia, led by CSIRO, with MFS as a delivery partner.

There are trial sites are now set up at Craigie, Rocky Range, Countegany and Nimmitabel, with measurements starting this spring. The trial sites are to observe the sulfur, potassium and boron in legume-based pastures—how much sulfur and potassium is needed to build and maintain soil levels, and whether soil testing can help identify where adding boron would be useful. Countegany is looking at sulfur only; the other three sites have all three nutrients.

The work builds on the soil testing information collected through our Soils Club and will help us better understand nutrient management under Monaro conditions.
