Monaro Winter Worm Risk Outlook 2025
The average WEC through Autumn this year was 449epg. This 99epg higher than the long-term average of 350epg and higher than last year’s Autumn average of 415epg. The Barbers Pole average of 57% is the same as last Autumn but higher than the long-term average of 51%. Small brown Stomach Worm and Black Scour Worm are at 6% and 19% respectively – this is well below average. The rain is coming in patches however its closely followed by the cold – sheep and cattle can lose energy chasing the short green pick lowering the immune system. Immune system management is key especially coming into late pregnancy and lambing. As the percentage of Sour and Stomach Worm increases the threshold for drenching should decrease. Larval cultures are especially important at this time of year for targeted worm management.
