Sheep and Wool Training Weekend – Monaro

Monaro Farming Systems partners with the Peter Westblade Scholarship to deliver the Sheep and Wool Training Weekend – Monaro, an immersive, hands-on program designed to support and develop the next generation of leaders in the sheep and wool industry.

The program brings together young sheep and wool enthusiasts from across the region for an intensive learning experience focused on practical on-farm skills, business understanding and personal development. Training is delivered through a mix of interactive workshops, on-farm demonstrations and group discussion.

The inaugural Monaro training weekend was held at Jindembuen, Dalgety, in March 2025 and attracted strong participation from young people keen to build skills and confidence across a range of areas relevant to sheep and wool enterprises. Sessions covered core technical topics including animal health, pasture assessment and management, sheep selection, stockmanship, wool handling and worm management, alongside broader discussions around employment pathways, business decision-making and resilience.

Beyond technical learning, the program places strong emphasis on mentoring, professional development and wellbeing, providing participants with opportunities to learn directly from experienced producers and industry professionals and to build valuable peer networks.

Future Sheep and Wool Training Weekend opportunities will be shared through MFS channels as they become available.
